A Simple Faith

Recently, I was very lucky to be able to interview my lovely pastor's wife, June Kimmel, who is also an author and ladies speaker. Mrs. Kimmel has always been an encouragement to me, and two summer's ago during a ladies retreat she talked about having a simple faith. I wanted to hear more about what she has to say on this subject, so she was kind enough to let me interview her. Following are some wonderful truths that she shared with me.

1. Why is a simple faith important?

We live in a world that is becoming more complex every day. With the increase in technology, our lives have become more complicated. God designed faith to be simple—not necessarily easy, but simple. Satan is the author of confusion and seeks to complicate our lives to draw our focus off of the Lord Jesus. Even well-meaning, biblically knowledgeable people often make faith mysteriously theological and not practically simple. My faith should touch every area of my life.

2. How would you describe a simple faith?

Simple faith is childlike faith. A child confidently accepts and believes what a trusted one tells him. As God’s child, I demonstrate a simple faith by placing my confidence in God. I accept and apply the truths of God’s Word. I place my full confidence in Him without questioning. Simple faith is simply trusting and obeying.

3. What would you say are basic truths that we need to understand in order to have a simple faith?

Through the pages of God’s Word I learn three foundational truths of a simple, genuine faith. When I respond to these truths, my faith grows.

1. God is. I must strive to know Him better.
2. God can. I must trust Him without reservation.
3. God will. I must rest in His unfailing promises.

4. How is it possible to keep a simple faith, when this world seems so busy, and your schedule so full?

When we become distracted with the cares of this world, we take our focus off the Lord Jesus. We will walk in simple faith when we keep our attention fixed on the truths of God’s Word and our actions obedient to the commands of His Word. Too often Christians allow the world to dictate their lives instead of submitting to the commands of the God’s Word. Again, simple faith is simply obeying God and believing what He says is true.

5. What is the best way to change your perspective to one of living a simple faith?

My perspective is determined by what is my priority. Knowing God through His Word must be my priority. When I spend time reading and meditating on God’s Word, my thinking should reflect what I’m learning. When my thinking is molded by God’s Word, my actions will be also. Simple obedience to God’s Word demonstrates a simple faith.

I hope you enjoyed reading this as much as I enjoyed my time with Mrs. Kimmel! Mrs. Kimmel has written several devotional books that I have loved reading, and if you would like to read some yourself you can find copies of her books here: http://www.christianbook.com/June_Kimmel
